Cyclonic storm over Western Europe and sand storm over Northern Algeria (31 October 2003)

One of the strongest points of MSG, having many IR window channels, is its capacity to observe fundamental properties of clouds and to help the forecaster draw conclusions on cloud processes like precipitation type (drizzle, rain, showers, virga) and severe weather phenomena (thunderstorm, hail). This case shows a cyclonic storm over Western Europe where features like multi-layer clouds, thunderstorms, light rain showers, frontal bands with rain, orographic clouds and thin Cirrocumulus can be identified.
