How to use Satellite Imagery animation

Static Image Controls

Animation Controls

  • < Play - plays the animation back in time from the currently selected image
  • Stop - stops the animation from playing
  • Play > - plays the animation forward in time to the currently selected image (if there aren't enough frames available before the selected image then the animation starts from the earliest available image)
  • Frames in Animation - specifies that the animation will be made up of the 6, 9 or 12 image frames (NOTE: for some formats fewer frames may be played if there are fewer frames available on the server!)
  • Ping-pong - plays the animation backwards and forwards repeatedly (note that the button acts as a toggle, i.e. pressing it the first time starts ping-pong mode, whereas pressing it a second time will cause the animation to play in the direction that the animation is moving at that time)
  • Slower slows down the animation **
  • Faster - speeds up the animation **
  • Reset - resets the animation back to the default mode (i.e. 6 frames in animation, ping-pong mode off, animation stopped, etc.)
  • Print Image - loads the currently displayed image into a separate window so that it can be printed
  • Refresh - loads the latest available imagery
** speed is limited (i.e. there's a minimum and a maximum)

Format Configuration

  • Sector - allows selection of different sectors of the full disc image, or the full disc image itself (i.e. where the sectors number refers to a 3 by 3 square as follows:
    • 1 2 3 (top row of full disc image, 1=left/Northwest, 2=middle/North, 3=right/Northeast)
    • 4 5 6 (middle row of full disc image, 4=left/West, 5=middle/center, 6=left/East)
    • 7 8 9 (i.e. bottom row of full disc image, 7=left/Southwest, 8=middle/South, 9=right/Southeast)
** some options are not available depending on which service is selected
